Requiem? A Fanfic To Rewrite Chapter 137-139! »

Since the manga for Attack on Titan ended a few weeks ago, fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the series ended. It’s great if you don’t like the ending, but I think saying you can do better is a little arrogant! That’s where Attack On Titan: Requiem comes in, a fan-driven initiative aimed towards “correcting” the flaws in Hajime Isayama’s work! There is, however, more to this organisation that people should be aware of!

As I previously stated, there is nothing wrong with fans voicing their dissatisfaction with a series’ conclusion; we have done so for decades! There’s nothing wrong with contemplating different timelines for how something might have turned out! When it comes to this type of approach, I have a problem with those who believe they can tell a better story than the author. And, in the process, defame the creator.

Let me explain; in hindsight, everything is always 20/20! You always feel like you could have done a better job after seeing something play out. Even if you could tell a story that you and many others would enjoy, the reality is that your story is not the original creator’s vision. I’ll be the first to admit that the ending of Attack on Titan was bittersweet, hurried, and full of inconsistencies, and I didn’t like it. Yes, Ymir’s justification for her actions was ridiculous! Yes, the ending was hurried for whatever reason, and yes, Hajime Isayama, the author, said that he changed his ending when it became famous and went back on his original plan. He also remarked that the plot had grown on him and that he didn’t want to “murder everyone.” His editors also forced him to rewrite the ending. To be honest, it’s all a shambles. Despite this, I hate to admit it, but some individuals enjoyed the conclusion. Fans will always be divided by the tale of Attack on Tian, and that’s okay!

Let us now turn our attention to Attack On Titan: Requiem! Their mission, according to their website, is to tell the tale that Hajime Isayama either couldn’t or wouldn’t tell. The founder was “mad, deceived, and all the adjectives” when he started it. As a result, he or she took it upon themselves to assemble a crew and started scripting the finale that was intended to occur. I read it and it’s very excellent; it neatly wraps up all the loose ends, so I’ll give it to them.

When you start badmouthing the inventor and stirring up potential hatred for him, though, that pure fan purpose vanishes. These kinds of actions don’t look good, especially when your “job” consists of stealing other people’s work and pretending to be better at it. As I already stated, I’ve read the fanfic, and it’s not horrible; it’s just a shame that these are the folks that are working on it. Worse, they’re slamming a creator who is absolutely fine and even promotes fanfiction!

I felt compelled to speak out about it, especially when even Comic Book opted to cover them. They’re also working on a “anime adaption of it, which is crazy to me lol! As I previously stated, their work isn’t horrible, but it’s important to recognize who is behind it!
